What Women Want On Pornhub: Why Lesbian Porn And Threesomes May Be Popular Among ...

Fewer women than men watch pornography on the regular, although more women actually watch porn than talk about it. The rise of Internet porn has made adult videos become something that is readily accessible for both men and women. According to a recent Pornhub study in collaboration with The Daily Beast, women’s porn habits from all over the world, from lesbian porn, threesomes, and squirting (peeing), may reveal a lot about their past experiences and sexual fantasies.

Although women don’t talk about it, half of young adult women (aged 18-26) agree that viewing porn is an acceptable way of expressing one’s sexuality. Millennials’ “morally acceptable” view of porn is reflected in Pornhub’s age demographics, with women beating men in the 18 to 24 range by five percentage points. However, female porn viewership decreases in the 45-54, 55-65, and 65 age groups when compared to men.

The increase in viewership, specifically lesbian porn and threesomes, among women in this age group can lend itself to how many in their late teens and 20s are experimenting with bisexuality or feel more comfortable reporting same-sex encounters. These rendezvous are even more likely to take place in college, where experimentation is almost viewed as a rite of passage. A 2011 study published in the journal Psychology of Women Quarterly found heterosexual women kissing one another is a common occurrence among college women because college is a time for experimentation. They were motivated by either gaining male attention or bonding with female friends.

This “bicuriousity” can linger on after college and has been found to be entertained in women’s sexual fantasies. A majority of heterosexual women are naturally bi-curious when it comes to their relationships with other women. In a 2011 study published in the Journal of Sex Research, researchers found 60 percent of heterosexual women admitted to being attracted to other women, 45 percent had kissed another woman, and 50 percent had same-sex sexual fantasies. The researchers believe women are more openly affectionate with others of the same-sex because of their friendlier nature. This gives opportunity for intimacy, and even romantic feelings to develop.

These sexual fantasies and feelings of intimacy and romance with another woman are therefore projected onto porn habits. With women currently accounting for 24 percent of Pornhub’s viewership (up one*percent from 2014), female viewers are continuously growing, and the way they engage with adult content continues to be an interesting topic for researchers to explore.

This article brings about something the hubby and I were discussing. First of all, I respect everyone's choice and I hope that what am about to say doesn't offend anyone.

I was just curious as to how a man can still call himself straight if he has sex with another man whether it is "experimental" , he claims he is not in love with them or even if he loves and enjoys sex with women too.

When I read this article I wondered if a woman can call herself straight if she experimented with another female. Experimented as in had sex and these feelings are there.

What is the definition of a heterosexual male or female

I read an article recently where studies show that porn can actually change our sexual desires and what we feel for. With that said, is it really that women watch porn because they have these desires or porn tend to play devil's advocate and play a huge role in us desiring what we wouldn't normally desire if we never watched it or watched it regularly having that effect.

      Dun Dun DUN!!!

As for heterosexual/homosexual, I'd say the act of experimenting does not define sexual preferences but rather assists in defining your orientation.
Are you a coffee person or a tea person? Won't know until you try and decide which one you like better. Any other factor like cream or sugar are like the other factors of a person besides their gender - looks, personality, etc... well, not exactly but in terms of the basic idea for comparison purposes.

Sometimes, people won't know what they prefer until they try something. If they like both or gender doesn't matter, I believe that's called bisexual.

And now, I have a philosophical brain fart moment so not sure what to say to the last part.

Hah, KateD, I saw someone use the term "heteroflexible" on Reddit, not too long ago! Basically, it's becoming more generally accepted that human sexuality is a spectrum, not a dichotomy. So even if you've had some experiences with the same gender ('experimenting' as it's so often called) they shouldn't stop you from correctly identifying as heterosexual, if they are merely outliers. And indeed as fdesa12 said, outlier experiences can actually help you define and re-inforce your identity.

I'm a millenial female who agrees that porn can be a safe way to explore your sexuality. But as with all studies, it's important to distinguish between correlation and causation. There are many reasons why someone might seek out the porn they do, and even then, that doesn't mean that they actually want to live out the 'fantasies' they watch online.
