That is so true, Muestereate. A big part of the equation for success with a specific pheromone blend is with actually testing it out in the field. You can read everything that has ever been written on a mix and still walk away with less than a quarter of the whole real picture. I certainly question the validity of some of the user's reports. Misinterpretation of hits along with over exaggeration, placebo effect, hype, and clever marketing all contribute to the noise that one must filter through. People's perceptions and distant memories may be greatly distorted when it comes to their experiences of vintage mixes such as A314.
I also notice the bandwagon effect quite often on the forums with many users regurgitating the same faulty information over and over again. I rely on other users' reports as a guide and do not take them as gospel. I think of them as a short trailer or preview for a movie and testing the blend is akin to watching the actual movie. Some writers do make some blends out there seem like the holy grail and the best thing since sliced bread. I always try to lower my expectations and keep them in check!

Personally I've never had a desire to even look for the real thing and probably wouldn't buy it if it hit me in the face. The mystique and legend are probably worth more than a little placebo effect. That may help me close the gap between the degraded pheromones and the real thing but it may not. Quite frequently I have different effects than other people, ALWAYS I interpret effect though a filter of my own making. Nonetheless, I am also always looking for effects similar to what I have read about and those are only as good as the writer. Some writers can make anything seem like you just can't do without it.Leave a comment:

The pheromone blend of Api appears to be softer and friendlier (not necessarily a bad thing) when compared to vintage A314. No doubt A314 was the inspiration behind the making of Api. However, throughout the formulation and testing process, Api took off in a slightly different direction and developed its own unique character. This is similar to the creation of Barely Legal (with MX297 being its inspiration).
From the description of Dominant Ascend in the Pheromone XS store, "Neither APi or Ascend was formulated to take the place of an alpha-dominant oil blend. We created Ascend and APi to represent a true alpha-male who uses trust, respect and a cool head to get all he wants out of life." Vintage A314 would certainly be classified as an alpha-dominant oil blend. By the way, I do own Dominant Ascend and can confirm that it is indeed an excellent blend in its own right that I personally use frequently.
In retrospect, you do bring up a valuable point regarding the condition of any vintage A314's out there. It's basic chemistry....over time, ingredients in a liquid such as older pheromone blends will break down - even if it was handled with the utmost of care (never have been opened, kept in a cool and dark area immediately after being purchased, etc.). In other words, the bottle just sitting on the shelf, untouched, will naturally deteriorate. What I receive now may not be fully representative of what it was back then. The quality of the blend is likely diminishing as we speak, fading into a mixture of something unrecognizable with some molecules dominating more than others and smaller components completely vanishing from it.
Perhaps I'm dwelling too much into this and need to snap back to reality! 
So the question is, is it even worth hunting down a bottle of vintage A314 that more than likely has degraded a bit? This particular question I have no good answer for...however, I do feel like one of those obsessed fragrance enthusiast that is in dire search of some extremely rare and vintage formulation of a cologne that has been badly reformulated or long been discontinued. Thanks for the kind words and hopefully someone will contact me with the prospect of sharing some vintage A314 with me.

I'm willing to make a very handsome offer for it. Feel free to message me. Vintage A314 also includes the ones you could have purchased from the love-scent store back between 2005 and 2009.
I have sent some messages to a few pheromone veterans and have not succeeded yet
I guess it is not the same, but I have read "close."
Vintage A314 may also only be close because the time it sits in the bottle could make it go bad.
