Scent samples

Hi there, new member here. Looking forward to an interesting period of testing. As an old AD customer I´m familiar with Steve O and expecting the best. I received my first products some weeks ago, and the results so far are promising(especially Odyssey, it really has all the craziness of Spaceland, but with increased self effect). However, the scents chosen are not right for me, and this makes me use the mones much less than I would like to(covering up with cologne gets overwhelming). Would it be possible to get samples of the different scents available? I would need this before ordering again, I do not want to choose the wrong scent one more time.

As far as I know, the best thing you can do at this point is either call of SteveO and ask, or place an order for an unscented product and ask for a sample pack of the scents in the comments. I believe those sample pack of the scents count as one sample altogether, especially if the purpose is to figure out what you like.

Thank you for your tip! I have e-mailed customer service on the matter. Good to know that the scent sample pack only counts as one sample; there are a lot of interesting mones to try here.

If you'd care for a little more input, most people like FXS. That's the most popular scent I get asked to put in people's mones by far. (It's my personal favorite, too.) Followed by Fresh Musk and Sultans Oud. Nobility jumps up and down on the list. Sometimes I get a lot of orders for it, sometimes I go a week or two without an order for it. As far as the samples go I will send them out when I have them in stock no problem. But they move pretty quick. I hope that helps yall.

Tried Pepper/nutmeg and Fresh musk but the former was too peppery for me and the latter too heavy and traditional-cologne-like. Would you say FXS or Nobility is closest to what I'm looking for? Considering either ordering a bottle of FXS scent or a bottle of API unscented, asking for scent samples. Is the smell of unscented API strong?

I would say APi is strong almost like Ascend if you have that (no cops though) but that's just my nose and it doesn't bother me. I've yet to run into any comments regarding the unscented product.

Non of the scents are close to Neroli in my opinion in terms of a citrusy type. If anything, FXS is the lightest of the PXS scents and Nobility is quite sweet though I did get a comment once that it smelled like beer. I've always had the impression of a manly but flowery scent but since the beer's been mentioned, I can see where they got it from every time now (it could just be my skin chemistry w/ the scents too so...).

FXS tends to be very compatible with other light scents. I've matched it with Aqua di Gio, Invictus, most of the YSL colognes, Versace pour Homme, etc... So that might fit the neutral factor. It's not crisp, or as crisp as most summer/sport colognes. If you know YSL's pour homme, it somewhat sits above that mellowness that cologne has. At least in my opinion.

Givenchy Pour Homme and AD:s FF23("Blue Summer"), the scent of Ammunition summer 2012 edition, are other favourites, along with the citrusy and soap like/clean/sporty scents. I don´t care much for heavy colognes. I do have Ascend, though scented Pepper/nutmeg and with no cops, only feel the smell of P/n so far. If I get you right APi is best scented then? As to the smell of beer: sure it was due to the mones? Perhaps the hops could be regarded as manly and flowery..?

Quite possible although I have Xist and Cohesion scented with Nobility.

I think you'll like FXS. Some people have likened it to Issey Miyaki. I personally don't think so but I'd say it falls under the same class of spring/summer/daytime/nighttime/anytime-you-want-to-use scent. I've even gone so far as to try and use it as a car freshener scent (the oils don't evaporate too well, need to find a better diffusion method).

On PT, I've seen remarks about how PXS scents aren't as complex compared to other vendors who make more cologne-like mixes.

For me, it worked with L'Homme (my mistake: I called it pour Homme in previous post). I kept the two scents separated from each other though so I don't know if it makes a difference if you put FXS right on top of L'Homme or vice versa. For the most part, FXS will either lend/steer the cover cologne enough that it may feel like a subtly different yet recognizable cologne, or it will be drowned out by a strong cologne. It's the cover scent from PXS that will conflict the least with any other cover.

If you want to stay on the safe side, I think getting APi unscented and having the scent sample pack to check is the best way to go. If you already have a cover cologne, that should work out.

well, having being honest I prefer to use it with acqua di gio, one millon or other commercial, because even I can not find my ideal cover probare with the sultan oud, an apology for not being able to help with that!

Thank you fdesa12 for your advice! I followed it and got the scent sample pack along with the API. You were absolutely right about the FXS; it was just the kind of soap like, fresh scent that I prefer, somewhere between L´Homme and Givenchy Pour Homme but more soap like and really neutral for everyday purpose. I also like ADG (smells like something from Hugo Boss with a pinelike touch of nineties; makes me think of my first aftershave, used in positively inebriating amounts), but the FXS really seems like the perfect default scent for me, blends well with other scents I wear.

I believe the older aftershaves contained methyl dihydro-jasmonate, that must be why.
